Tax Collector
Property taxes are due February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt you from paying taxes or interest due on delinquent taxes. The City does permit a 10 day grace period. The State of New Jersey does not permit the use of a postmark to verify payment. Payment must be received by the tenth day or the State requires payment of the mandated late charge. A charge of 8% interest per annum on the first $1,500.00 of delinquency and 18% per annum on any amount in excess of $1,500.00.
New Sewer Bill will be mailed out end of January. This Bill will have 4 payment stubs for February, May, Aug. and Nov. Qtrs. You will only receive 1 bill a year for Sewer Billing. You can pay 1 Qtr at a time or all 4 Qtrs.
Automatic Debit Payments for Tax and Sewer Bills:
The City has developed a system to accept Automatic (ACH) Debit Payments for taxes and sewer from Garfield residents. This program will allow residents to enroll with the Tax Collector and permit Automatic Debit transactions from a bill payer’s designated checking account whenever a payment is due. Enrollment may be for tax and/or sewer payments only.
If you are interested in participating in the ACH program, please call the Tax office and an application will be mailed to you or download the application under Forms.
Please include a voided check with your application, and return to the Tax Office.
If property is sold please notify the tax office to cancel ACH
