PART-TIME FINANCE DEPARTMENT CLERK
Posted: 08/20/2026 - 12:45 PM Due By: 09/03/2026 - 04:00 PMThe City of Garfield is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and computer-proficient individual for a part-time position in the Finance Department. This position is ideal for an individual interested in gaining experience in municipal government, finance, accounting, or public administration.
The Finance Department Clerk will perform a variety of entry-level administrative, clerical, and financial duties in support of the City's municipal finance operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Processing, entering, and maintaining purchase orders and related documentation;
- Entering invoices, bills, payments, and other financial information into the City's financial management system;
- Assisting with the processing and organization of vouchers, invoices, purchase orders, and payment documentation;
- Reviewing documents and paperwork for completeness and accuracy;
- Maintaining organized financial and administrative records, both electronic and paper;
- Performing data entry and maintaining accurate computer records;
- Assisting with vendor information and maintaining vendor records;
- Preparing routine correspondence, spreadsheets, reports, and other documents;
- Scanning, filing, copying, and electronically organizing municipal records;
- Responding to routine inquiries from City departments, vendors, and members of the public;
- Assisting Finance Department staff with general administrative and clerical functions;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, are required;
- Ability to learn and effectively use municipal financial and accounting software;
- Previous office, clerical, bookkeeping, accounting, or municipal government experience is preferred but not required;
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;
- Ability to accurately enter and maintain financial information;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of municipal and financial records;
- Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with City employees, vendors, and the public;
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks;
- Municipal government or accounting experience is a plus, but the City is willing to train the right candidate.
Hours: Monday through Thursday 9AM-3:30PM, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
Salary: Commensurate upon experience
