PUBLIC NOTICE CITY of GARFIELD WATER DEPARTMENT
Posted August 01, 2024ATTENTION: Residents of Garfield The City of Garfield Water Department will begin its hydrant-flushing program on Monday, August 5th. This program is part of an ongoing maintenance program to insure the delivery of the highest quality water. The work will be performed during regular working hours of 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The flushing program will last for the period of approximately one full month starting with the hydrants at the north end of Garfield near the border of Elmwood Park and working our way to the south doing approximately 15 to 20 fire hydrants daily. Your water service may be interrupted for a short period and residents may experience some discoloration of their water. This is expected and a normal occurrence when existing water mains are disturbed. The discoloration poses no health hazard but residents should refrain from the consumption of the discolored water. If you experience discoloration, please allow the water to run from your cold-water tap until it clears and caution should be used in washing clothing. If you have any questions regarding this program, call (973) 546-2200 during normal working hours. The City of Garfield apologizes for any inconvenience during this time and requests your cooperation.
