PFA Water Treatment Systems are Complete and Operational
February 28, 2023
We are pleased to announce the City has completed the installation of all necessary water treatment systems to remove a recently regulated set of chemicals known as PFAs.
The City owns 2 wells within the City and an additional 14 wells at the Elmwood Park Wellfield. These wells produce the majority of our water. We purchase additional water from the Passaic Valley Water Commission on an as-needed basis.
The NJDEP recently enacted new regulations for PF As in 2020 and 2021. The new regulations required the City to install treatment systems to treat the water for all of our 16 wells.
We completed the installation of the water treatment systems for the two wells within the City last year and completed the installation of a larger system at the Elmwood Park Wellfield on February 24t1,. All of the systems are operational.
We continue to test the water at all of our wells and report those results to the NJDEP.
The Mayor, Council, and City Manager are fully committed to protecting the health and safety of om·residents and operating our water system in full compliance with all state and federal regulations. Many thanks to all of those involved in this historic achievement.
