Emergency Services Personal Profile for Kenneth Robertson

Ken has been very actively involved in the Garfield Emergency Services ever since joining the Garfield Volunteer Fire Dept. in March of 1987. Starting his fire dept. service with Fire Co. #4 before transferring to Fire Co #2 in 1989 where he expanded his emergency services knowledge. Serving Fire Company #2 in the capacity of Secretary 1990 to 1994, Lieutenant in 1991, 2003 & 2004, Chief Engineer in 2005, & 2006, Captain 1992 to 1996, Assistant Fire Chief 1997 to 2000, Chief of Department in 2001. 

Ken has been employed by the City of Garfield, Dept. of Public Works since 1987 in the capacity of Truck Driver before being promoted to Heavy Equipment Operator and served as the city’s Property Maintenance & Unlawful Dwelling Inspector for 6 years before transferring back to the Public Works where he is currently assigned to the City’s Water Dept. 

Served the Garfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps from 1989 to 1993 as a senior member, Emergency Medical Technician, and Crew Chief.

Served the Garfield Police EMS from 1993 to 1999 as an Emergency Medical Technician.

Served as a Fire Inspector for the Garfield Fire Prevention Bureau for 2 years. 

Currently serving Bergen County’s fire dept. community as Assistant South Bergen Mutual Aid Fire Coordinator, since 2002. 

Is a Life Member of the New Jersey State Fireman’s Association, a member of New Jersey State Fire Chiefs Association, South Bergen Fire Chief’s Aid Association, and the Garfield Exempt Fireman’s Association. 

Currently holds certification and training in the following areas: 

Firefighter 1, 2, & 3, Fire Officer 1 & 2, Multiple Advanced Firefighting courses, First aid, CPR & Defibulator,  Emergency Vehicle Operator, NJ State Certified Fire Official, Advanced fire service administrative and, management courses, Basic Emergency Management, Building Construction, Hazard Materials Technician – Level 3, Incident Command & Incident Management, NJ State Right to Know Instructor, Confined Space, Rescue - Operations, Response to Utility Emergencies, Incident Safety Officer, Staging Area Manager, And many other miscellaneous Emergency Service Courses

On the personal side: Ken is married, to Deanna his wife of 3 years, and has 2 wonderful children, step daughter, Breanne 17 y/o and son Liam 18 months old. He was raised in Garfield and attended Garfield Public Schools until high school where he graduated from Bergen County Vo-Tech High School in Hackensack.  He greatly enjoys the outdoors and is an avid hunter and outdoor sportsman and current President of Barbertown Sportsman’s Club in Hunterdon County.
