1. Name and current address of both the buyer and seller
2. Fee for Certificate of Occupancy for Residential:
a) 1 Family - $35.00
b) 2 Family - $50.00
c) Multiple Family - $25.00 Per Unit
3. Fee for Certificate of Occupancy for Commercial and or Business
a) Less than 3000 square feet - $50.00
b) 3000 square feet to 10,000 square feet - $250.00
c) Over 10,000 square fee - $250.00 plus $25.00 for every 10,000 square feet
4. Fee for Smoke Detector / Carbon Monoxide / Fire extinguisher
a) 10 business days - $35.00
b) 4 - 10 Business days - $70.00
c) Less than 10 business days - $125.00
5. There are 2 forms that must be filled out; one for your Certificate of Occupancy and the other for your smoke detector / carbon monoxide detector /fire extinguisher.
PLEASE ONLY FILL OUT THE TOP PART OF EACH FORM
6. Once you have filled out your forms please call the Fire Prevention Bureau at 973-478-7071 to set up an appointment for your inspection. All your detectors and extinguishers must be in place before the Fire Inspector comes.
7. When your inspection has been completed please return your forms to the City of Garfield Building Department with two (2) checks. Your first check for your Certificate of Occupancy should be made out to the City of Garfield. Your second check for your fire inspection should be made out to the Bureau of Fire Prevention.
8. We will then issue your Certificate of Occupancy (in the new owners name) according to how quickly it is needed. |
