Garfield Municipal Court

The Garfield Municipal Court / Violations Bureau is located in Garfield City Hall, 111 Outwater Lane, Garfield, New Jersey.  Violation Bureau hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. and the Municipal Court is closed on all holidays.  There is no weekend phone service.  Garfield Municipal Court sessions are every Tuesday at 10:00 am and every Thursday at 4:00 pm  There are no night-time Court sessions.  If anyone wishes to come to Court for a ticket, they must call Garfield Violations at (973) 340-6119 for a Court date.  The Court date listed on the front of the ticket is a due date to pay for the ticket.  Payment can be made on the internet at www.njmcdirect.com .

In order to service the community of Garfield with its diversified population, the Garfield Municipal Court now has on staff a Polish speaking clerk and a Spanish speaking clerk.  All clerks can assist the public in the Violations Department that have matters regarding Traffic Tickets or criminal matters before going to Court.  Anyone that needs to have an interpretor when they appear in Court must first call the Court at (973) 340-6199 to arrange for an interpretor to be present.                            

Alternate Side Parking Tickets - Garfield has an Alternate Side Street Parking Program.  This program is used for street sweeping, snow removal, leaf removal and any road work needed to be done by Garfield Department of Public Works.  Any questions as to whether the Garfield Police will be issuing tickets, please call the Garfield Police Department at (973) 478-8500.  If a car is disabled, please put a sign in the front and back of the car and also call the Garfield Police Department advising the location of the car.  If anyone wants to come to Court to fight an Alternate Side Parking Ticket, you must call for a Court date to be put on the Court Calendar.  Please check your street signs for the correct days and times of Alternate Side Parking.  If any signs are unclear to read, please call the Garfield Police Department.

Resident Parking Tickets - Garfield has a Resident Parking Sticker Program.  All residents of Garfield must get Parking Stickers for all their cars in order to park a car overnight on any street in Garfield.  If anyone has off-street parking, they also must get a sticker for their car.  There is no charge for a sticker.  Any out-of-town guests must call the Garfield Police Department every night their car is on the street and they will be put on a courtesy list.  If a Garfield resident is using a car without a sticker for temporary reasons, they must call the Garfield Police Department and the Parking Sticker Department at (973) 340-2328.  Anyone who wishes to get a sticker or has any questions about the Sticker Program, please call the Sticker Department.

Contest a Ticket - You must call the Garfield Court to contest a ticket.  You cannot walk into a Court session to hear your matter without the proper paperwork.  A Court date will be scheduled according to Police Officer availability and Court load.  The Court date listed on the front of the ticket is a due date to pay by.  Please call Violations at (973) 340-6119 seven (7) days before the date listed on the front of the ticket.  Anyone coming to Court must have payment in full for any fines assessed by the Judge for tickets that are heard.

Payment of Outstanding Tickets - Tickets can be paid through the mail by check or money order.  If a receipt is needed, a stamped self-addressed envelope must be sent to the Court and a receipt will be returned.  Tickets paid in person at Violations, Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, can be by cash, check or money order.  Tickets can be paid on the internet at www.njmcdirect.com with credit card.
