Councilman Louis G. Aloia, a life-long resident of Garfield, became Mayor from 1996 – 2000 and is presently serving as Councilman. Owner and Manager of Aloia Funeral Home since 1980, Lou is married to Rosemarie. Lou has a long history of community service both prior and present. His former achievements include Garfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps senior member and vice-president, New Jersey League of Municipalities Mayor’s Legislative Committee, Bergen County Visiting Homemaker Health Aide Service Board Trustee, Garfield Boy’s Club Board of Directors, Garfield UNICO four year President, Garfield City Insurance Commissioner, Garfield Redevelopment Agency Charter Commissioner, Garfield Republican County Committee Chairman, Garfield Rotary, Garfield Paris Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church Finance Chairperson, Parish Council, Knights of the Alter Director and Holy Name Society four year President and Lodi Italian-American Forum, Vice President. Still very active in the community, Councilman Aloia’s current activities include: International life member of Delta Sigma Pi, Garfield Chamber of Commerce Trustee and Treasurer, Garfield 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Garfield Elks, Garfield Republican County Committee, Union City Park Performing Arts Center Passion Play performing member. |
