| Councilmember Joseph Delaney |
Joseph Delaney is one of seven children born to Joe and Ann Delaney. Joe has been a lifelong resident in the City of Garfield. He attended Most Holy Name Grammar School and is a graduate of Paramus Catholic High School. After graduating high school Joe joined the family business J & W Caterers, which has been a fixture in Garfield for over forty years. Joe and his wife Yvette have five children. He is a parishioner of Most Holy Name Church. Joe was elected to the Garfield Board of Education in 1993. He was presented the prestigious Silver Card award in 1993 by the Garfield Local 46 PBA for his continuous support to the Garfield Police Department. Joe has always been available to lend a helping hand for a jug of coffee to many organizations in Garfield including Garfield Rotary, Garfield Chamber of Commerce, Garfield Fire Departments, and our Senior Citizens. He is a fixture at the annual Christmas tree lighting offering complimentary coffee and hot chocolate. Joe has always been committed to the children of the community. He started his coaching career in 1977 with the Garfield Little League coaching the very team sponsored by the family business J & W Caterers. He has also been involved with many youth organizations such as the Garfield Junior Boilermakers, YMCA, Garfield Babe Ruth League, Columbus School #8 Home and School Association, and the Garfield Girl’s Softball League; helping out any way possible from coaching, sponsoring a team or just lending a helping hand. Joe has been a member of the Garfield Boys and Girls Club Coaches Association for over ten years. His service has included coaching Baseball, Flag Football, and Buddy Basketball, which he still continues to coach. He has also been a sponsor to several teams. Joe was elected to the City Council on November 5, 2002 and became Deputy Mayor on July 1, 2004. |
