 The Garfield Police Department located at 411 Midland Ave Garfield, NJ 07026 (non-emergency telephone number 973-478-8500) currently employees 65 Sworn officers, 6 Public Safety telecommunicaters and 2 Record Room clerks. The City of Garfield which is bordered by Elmwood Pk, Saddle Book, Lodi, South Hackensack, Wallington, Passaic, and Clifton is a very diverse community. This comes with a lot of challenges. Some of these challenges include language and cultural differences. In order to accommodate the community, Garfield has hired bilingual officers. Currently spread throughout the shifts are officers that speak Polish, Spanish, French, Italian and Croatian. To date, the police department itself is culturally diverse which helps the city. Recently, the department's first female police officer has been hired. A Sub Station is operated at 159 Grand St. by the Special Services Division from 8:00 AM till 4:00 PM Monday to Friday which houses the Community Policing Unit, and the DARE instructional Unit. The Garfield Police Department is its own Public Safety Answering Point answering its own 9-1-1 calls and dispatches for Police, Fire, and EMS. The Garfield Police Department has a Bike Squad, School Resource Officers, DARE Instructors, and Accident Investigators. The Police motor pool consists of Chevy Impalas, Ford Crown Victorias, Dodge Chargers, Dodge Durango’s and a Ford Expedition. |
